Algeciras is situated in the Costa del Sol region of the south of Spain and occupies the far side of the bay from Gibraltar. Algeciras is a bustling port and an important point in travels and trade to Gibraltar and Morocco.
There are some sights well worth a look, especially in the old part of town which is very attractive. Alta square is one of the high points of Algeciras and boasts some wonderful architecture and a peaceful atmosphere. Another of the big draws of Algeciras is the wonderful bay and its promenade.

Alta Square – Alta Square is one of the most beautiful areas of the region. The square is lined wit palm trees, boasts a wonderful fountain and baroque architecture including the spectacular San Isidro Chapel.
Carteya – These excellent ruins are well worth a look and can be found around half way round Algeciras Bay.
Beaches – The beaches of Algeciras Bay are beautiful and one of the cities most attractive facets. The promenade is full of enjoyable bars, restaurants and cafes serving a range of food and drink.
Gibraltar – One of the biggest draws of Algeciras is its close proximity to the British colony of Gibraltar. Just 12km drive away, the tiny island of Gibraltar is a treat and well worth a visit. Gibraltar offers spectacular views, natural beauty and a unique atmosphere.
Morocco – A lot of people come to Algeciras on there way to Morocco, which is easily accessible from the port. The North African country can be travelled to on a day trip from Algeciras and offers a culturally rich experience. |
