Gerona is situated in the Costa Brava on the north east coast of Spain. The city is one of the oldest in all of Catalonia, dating back to Roman times. Gerona is very attractive to tourists because of its fabulous array of cultural attractions and because it is in close vicinity to many great coastal resorts such as Lloret de Mar.
Of the attractions in the city itself, the beautiful gothic cathedral is probably the best. In the surrounding areas you will find a range of delightful small towns, fantastic resorts and interesting sights. |

Cathedral – The cathedral of Gerona is a magnificent gothic styled building which must not be missed. Inside the cathedral you will find an excellent collection of medieval religious art.
Arab Baths -The 13th century Arab Baths found close by the cathedral are well worth a visit.
The Rambla – This is Gerona’s main shopping area, and it offers a myriad of lovely shops and cafes to meander around. The best time to go is on a Sunday morning when there is a great flower market.
Dali Museum – This excellent museum documents the life and works of the great artist. The museum is found in the close by town of Figueres, which is the birthplace of Salvador Dali.
Empúries – If visiting Gerona it is defiantly worth the short trip to see the excellent Graeco-Roman remains found here. |
