Useful Tips
Traffic - by Gordon from Glasgow
Follow the expensive but secure toll speedway A7 and at all costs avoid the always overcrowded and dangerous N340. It goes along the sea, but trust me, there is zilch to see, except huge modern buildings of no interest and traffic jams!!!!!
Parking - by Patricia from Ireland
My tip is that be careful when parking as the spanish park awkwardly so don't pull up tight to the car infront.
Scenic drives - by Karl from Brighton
All that you dream of Spain comes to life when you drive along the Costa del Sol. There is no other way to explore the sun drenched Andalusian region than to hire a car, although when we were doing the history and culture thing, getting around the town without a car was still ok, although I definitely would have preffered to drive.
Parking - by Stewart from UK Yorkshire
Watch out with care where you park, it is not always obvious where it is ok to park, the local police will tow your car within 15 minutes. If in doubt ASK someone before you leave your car. Fuengirolla Sea front is all pay and display, this is not always obvious, but if you forget to pay (or miss the signs) you will get a local ticket. You can settle this immediately at any of the pay station machines at a very reasonable cost. (Usually a few Euros)
Scenic drives - by Pierre from Belgium
I rented a car at Malaga Airport in May to drive to the very south of Spain. Instead of taking the Motorway (there is a toll), take the free national road next to the sea. It's a very beautiful drive.

Malaga Overview
Malaga has been home to international visitors for decades now, and has an excellent infrastructure to accommodate tourists at all ends of the scale. Situated in the Andalusian region of Spain, Malaga is the second city of southern Spain (after Sevilla) with a population of half a million.

The majority of travellers to Malaga, like much of the Costa del Sol, are in search of sun, sand and sea which Malaga can offer in abundance. With temperatures rarely dipping below 30° in the summer and a good temperate climate throughout the rest of the year, Malaga is the perfect retreat for the sun-starved. While beaches can be busy in summer due to Malaga's unrelenting popularity, a more secluded spot is always just a short drive away down the Costa del Sol.

Malaga Essentials
Marques de Larios, Plaza de la Constitución and Calle de Granada - These three areas form the core of Malaga's vibrant night scene. Malaga has a thriving nightlife where a maze of side streets and alleys give way to tapas bars and bodegas (old fashioned wine shops). In particular, Malaga is also famed for its fried fish (arguably some of the best in Spain) which can be found in most of the town's restaurants.

Plaza de la Mercred - Malaga is home to many illustrious citizens including Pablo Picasso, Ibn Gabirol, Espinel, the Marquis of Salamanca and Cánovas del Castillo. Today you can still visit the home of Pablo Picasso, where the Picasso Museum is situated which is situated. Picasso was born at 36 Plaza de Riego (plaza de la Mercred) on 25th October 1881.

Costa del Sol - Inevitably the reason everyone visits Malaga, the Spain's sunshine coast can become very crowded in the summer. The golden sands and guaranteed sunshine are a testament to Malaga's perpetual popularity. For the more active, a range of water sports facilities and hire equipment is available throughout the Costa del Sol.

Alcazaba - Built in 6 years between 1057 and 1063 this is a fantastic example of Malaga's historic past. An interesting blend of hispanic and arabic architecture, the Alcazaba used to be Malaga's most important military fortification.

Garden de la Concepcion - This beautiful 19th century garden is the perfect retreat from the afternoon sun. Full of exotic flowers and ancient Roman statues it is an excellent place to relax and avoid the beach crowds.

Malaga Calendar - Pick of the Year's Events
Semena Santa (Holy Week) - Every Easter the streets of Malaga are packed with street parties and precessions carrying large flotillas called tronas (throwns). The Semana Santa is one of the largest celebrations in Spain, and during this week Malaga's population doubles in size.

Malaga Feria (Summer Fair) - Held every August, this is one of Europe's largest fairs. For the whole week locals and visitors celebrate with processions, dancing and music in traditional Andalusian style. The focal point for the festivities can be found at the main street of Calle Larios which become pedestrianised.
